Strapping
Strapping: Polyester, Polypropylene and Steel
LINC Systems has been a long-time distributor of Signode and Samuel Strapping Systems. We carry polyester, polypropylene, steel, woven and composite strapping, plus the seals, buckles, tools and machines that apply it, and our technicians repair strapping tools when they fail.
Which Strapping Is Right for Your Load?
- Polypropylene (PP): light to medium strength. Best for cartons, bundling and light pallets.
- Polyester (PET): medium to heavy strength and holds tension. Best for heavy pallets, bricks and lumber, and a common steel replacement.
- Steel: the heaviest strength with very little stretch. Best for metal, coils and very heavy or sharp loads.
- Woven and composite: medium to heavy strength, hand-tensioned. Best for export, rail and truck loads, and jobs without power tools.
Why Shops Switch From Steel to Polyester
Polyester strap holds tension on loads that settle. It won't rust or stain the product, it's lighter to handle, and cut ends are less likely to cut gloves or hands. For many heavy loads it does the job of steel. Not sure yours qualifies? Call 800.513.9918 and tell us about the load.

Apply strap by hand with tensioners, sealers and buckles, with battery-powered tools for faster work, or with semi-automatic and automatic strapping machines from Signode, Samuel and PAC. Shop strapping tools and accessories.

Strapping FAQs
What is the difference between polyester and polypropylene strapping?
Polyester (PET) is stronger and holds tension better, so it suits heavy loads. Polypropylene costs less and works for lighter loads and cartons.
Can polyester strapping replace steel?
For many loads, yes. PET strap holds tension well, won't rust and is safer to handle. Very heavy or sharp-edged loads may still need steel.
What size strapping do I need?
It depends on load weight and how the load ships. Tell us about your load and we'll recommend a width and break strength.
Do I need seals or can I use buckles?
Power tools weld or friction-seal PET and PP strap without seals. Hand tools use metal seals, and woven or cord strap uses buckles.
Do you repair strapping tools?
Yes. LINC services Signode, Fromm, Samuel, PAC and Carolina strapping tools.
